Azaria Gets Her Ears Pierced

Meet Azaria!! The object of my affection... the apple of my eye... the reason this blog exists!!!

Well, Friday evening Dennis (aka her daddy and my husband) and I decided to pierce our little darling's ears. So off we went to Dufferin Mall in search of Claire's boutique. I admit, I was a bit apprehensive; one of Dennis' patients had advised him that the earlier we get it done the easier it will be for her in terms of pain. Dennis was very unsure as to whether or not he wanted his daughter to get her ears pierced at all. As much as I was anxious to get it done, as was the case when she had her first booster shot, I was more nervous than her.

After being given instructions on how to hold her, Dennis calmly held Azaria in his lap. As I watched the girls prep the area, I gazed at Azaria. She was smiling with everyone, oblivious to what was about to happen to her. The manager marked her ears with a black, surgical marker and turned to me for approval. I nodded, watching Azaria to see if she realized something was about to happen to her. She continued to smile and look around. As the two sales girls positioned themselves around her with their piercing guns I couldn't help but feel that perhaps I should save her from her impending fate. At that point Dennis held her head against his chest with one arm and her arms with the other. I wanted to look away, but something held my head. Then, in the bink of an eye, CLICK, CLICK and it was done. Azaria was already crying because Dennis had been holding her down, but she cried a little bit harder. I reached out and craddled her, apologizing for the pain. How could I ease her little, baby pain? Not even 15 seconds later though, she was quiet again, laughing with her daddy. What did I learn from this experience you ask? Well, I think the most important thing is my daughter is much more of a trooper than I gave her credit for. She's also the quickest baby to bounce back from an ear piercing!
